Billy Clyde Smith

June 22, 1927 — July 23, 2022

Billy was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas on June 22, 1927 to Johnnie Clyde Smith and Winnie Edmaiston Smith.  He lived most of his lifetime at Cotton Plant where he graduated from high school and joined the Navy. After serving 2 years on the USS Piedmont, he came back to Cotton Plant and married Mary Evelyn Harris.

Billy worked as a self-employed painter. He liked to fish, hunt, garden, and watch all Razorback sports! He was an excellent story teller and his great smile reflected his fun nature and the joy in his heart! Billy loved his FBC Cotton Plant family. He loved his six grandchildren and nine great-grands and was dearly loved by his family!

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Clyde and Winnie Smith, and one sister, Victoria Smith Holmes, and his loving wife, Mary, of 60 years.

He is survived by his three children, Roxanne Johnson and husband, David of Mtn. Home, and Barbara Blackmore and husband, Don of Jonesboro, and one son, Casey Smith of Ward, AR; six grandchildren, Adrienne Stone (Steven) of Navarre, FL, Nathan Johnson of San Diego, CA, Allison Gary (Daniel) of Jonesboro, Meagan Greer (Rob) of Jonesboro, Anna Marie French (Jake) of Jonesboro, Katelyn Whitlock (Ryan) of Jonesboro; nine great-grandchildren, Blakely Stone of Navarre, FL, Grace, Jack and McKenzie Gary of Jonesboro, Savannah, Ava Jane, and Madelyn Greer of Jonesboro, Eleanor French of Jonesboro, and Lydia Whitlock of Jonesboro.

The visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Plant with Don Blackmore and David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Cotton Plant Memorial Cemetery with the active pallbearers being Danny Holmes, Nathan Johnson, Daniel Gary, Rob Greer, Jake French, and Ryan Whitlock.
