Billy Norman “Bill” Gibson, 97, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday August 6, 2024 at the Springs of Searcy. He was born August 16, 1926 in Jonesboro to the late William David Gibson and Mabel Clair Gibson.
Bill was a life long resident of Jonesboro and was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. He was a 1943 graduate of Arkansas State High School and a 1948 graduate of Arkansas State College. His early work life included coaching girl’s basketball and teaching at Biggers Public School (where he met Jane Killough) and Brookland Public School. He then worked 13 years for Gulf Oil. In 1960, he took over the family business, Gibson Radiator Shop, from his father who had started the business in the 1930’s. He ran the business for 35 years before retiring. After retirement he worked for Quality Wholesale Florists for 15 years. Bill married the love of his life, Jane Killough, on November 2nd, 1947 and they were married for 68 years until her passing in April of 2016. Bill knew just about everybody in Jonesboro. He had a smile and a handshake for everyone and loved telling stories.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Gibson as well as their son, Todd Gibson.
Survivors include his daughters, Panda (Randal) Spurgin of Bella Vista and Debbie (Ross) Cardin of Heber Springs as well as 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will be held Saturday August 17, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jay Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Bill’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
