Billy Gene Nelson

Billy Gene Nelson, 75, of Jonesboro, left this world to be with his maker Wednesday night, June 21, 2017, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Bill was born in Blytheville and was a 1960 graduate of Blytheville High School. He entered Arkansas State College in the fall of 1960 and was the Indian Football team manager for 4 seasons.

Bill was preceded in death by his middle son, "Rich" A. Nelson, his parents, John and Margie Nelson, brother John "Slick" Nelson, and sister Ann Carnal. He left a loving family, his spouse Mary Jane Nelson, 2 sons, Mike (Steph) Nelson and Brad (Stephanie) Nelson. In addition,
2 granddaughters Alyssa Nelson and Lauren Sanders, and 4 grandsons: Seth (Hannah) Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Ben Nelson and Graham Adams.

Bill was married to Mary Jane for 56 years. He worked 43 years at Jonesboro Concrete Pipe Company, later named Scurlock Industries, where he retired in 2004. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro and was a past member of the Jonesboro Elks Lodge. His life was centered around his wife and family. He will be missed very much..

A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Miles officiating. Private burial will be in Jonesboro Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ben Nelson, Graham Adams, Seth Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Ray Herring and Doyle McCain. There will be no visitation.
