Billy Gene Morgan, 76, of rural Bay, died Tuesday morning at his home from complications of long-term Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Trumann, Billy worked several years for Pullman Car Company in Michigan City, Indiana, before moving to Bay in 1972. He was a retired stock room manager for Arkansas Glass Container in Jonesboro with 24 years of service.
Billy was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist belief. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Cynthia Hicks; granddaughter: Jennifer Bauer; and two sisters: Geneva Morgan and Eva Gleason.
Survivors include: His wife of 47 years: Reba Morgan of the home;
1 Daughter: Sheila Rodgers of Bay;
2 Sons: Michael Morgan of Bay, and Mark Morgan of Jonesboro;
1 Brother: James R. Morgan of Michigan City;
10 Grandchildren: Heather Rodgers, Daniel Rodgers, Matthew Rodgers, Kayla Morgan, Andrew Morgan, Whitney Morgan, Melissa Moon, David Hicks, John Hicks and Steven Hicks; and
9 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Ted Knight and Phillip Rodgers officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers include: Charles Tice, Guy Spencer. Daniel Rodgers, Otis Bailey, Jim Kline and James Reece.
Honorary pallbearers include: Grandchildren, A.B. Scott, Lonnie and Jackie Reeves, Jane Spencer, the Bobbitt family, Dr. Donald Guinn and staff, and the staff of St. Bernards Hospice Program. A special thanks is extended to Charlie and Lucy Tice for the unending prayer and support throughout the lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
