Billy F. Carter, 80, passed away at his residence on Monday, March 25, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born on March 4, 1933 in Lake City to the late John & Clara Carter. He lived there until he was about eight and his family moved to Paragould. He attended Greene County School until the ninth grade and he was an Army veteran. He married Mary (Neoma) Carter on July 20, 1957 and they eventually moved to Brookland. He retired after thirty-two years from General Electric in Jonesboro. He was a member of the Brookland United Methodist Church, enjoyed gardening, playing cards, being with his family and his grand dog, Nicky, who passed away in 2010, and his current grand dogs, Bella and Sophie.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Carter of Brookland; three sisters, Jean (Don) Webb of Berthoud, Colorado, Retha Goodson of Longmont, Colorado, and Linda (Carroll) Dacus of Jonesboro; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Neoma Carter and one brother, Devaughn Carter.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Log Cemetery with Bro. Bill Sartin officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Emerson Funeral Home.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Curtis Gifford, Steve Walker, Mel Nicholson, Grady Walker, Greg Nall, Victor Bounds and honorary pallbearers are Murl Couch and Mike Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Brookland United Methodist Church.
