Bill C. Lane

March 24, 1942 — February 16, 2025

Bill C. Lane, 82, a lifetime resident of Bono, passed away from this life on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his home. He was born in Jonesboro on March 24, 1942, to Wilson and Mildred Lane. He was an active member of Bono Church of Christ, driving the church bus and teaching class for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Vietnam War and was a member of Jonesboro 875th National Guard Unit. Supporting the local veterans, he became a driving force in the American Legion Honor Guard, providing honor and care in their time of departure. Bill further supported his community as an active member of the Bono Volunteer Fire Department and Bono Fire District Board for over 60 years, 20 of which he served as Chief. His love for his family and children drove him to serve on the Westside School Board for 8 years. Earlier in his life, he also farmed the family land, worked as an EMT, and worked for Arkansas Power and Light.

After his retirement from over 30 years of service as an adjuster at Shelter Insurance, he enjoyed many hours of deer hunting, going to the lake, golfing, reading, watching Cardinals baseball, going to auctions, watching the crops grow, working on cars, cooking, and always drinking coffee. He was a family man, devoting his life to his wife of 62 years and pouring his heart and soul into raising his two children. He served as a mentor and father figure to many others throughout his life. He loved being “Papaw” and spending time with his grandchildren (and granddogs). He was never without a smile, always full of stories and jokes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Blake Lane, and his infant brother, Charles Russell Lane. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Lane; daughter, Bilinda Norman (Ronnie Jr.); brothers Wilson Lane (Peggy) and Jim Lane (Brenda); sister, Jenia Williams (Steve); grandchildren Brice Lane (Britney), Lindsey Norman (fiancé, Tanner Qualls), Braden Lane, and Blakely Lane; great-grandchild Brent William Lane; daughters-in-law Lisa Lane and Christy Lane; and a host of many loving friends, relatives, and nieces and nephews.

A celebration in memory of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Bono Church of Christ with Richard Akins officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery with Ronnie Norman Jr., Brice Lane, Braden Lane, Tanner Qualls, Zach Williams, Toby Wicker, Mickey Dement, Landon Thomas and Rick Thomas serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include his lifelong friends, Leon Hamilton, Rick Coffman, Billy Stephens Sr., Bill Inboden, Norman Brown, Jim Woodard, Tom Yohe, Stoney Hall, Kiley Dement, Randy Patton and the current and past members of the Bono Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
