Bettye Dow Moore

September 22, 1943 — January 16, 2011

Bettye Dow Moore, 67, of Jonesboro died Sunday at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born to Theo Dow & Belle Zora Summerford, she had lived in this area most of her life. She grew up in Caraway and was a 1961 graduate of Caraway High School. At one time she was the business assistant for the All American Red Heads professional women’s basketball team. She was a retired special education teacher with the Brookland School District and coached Special Olympics basketball for several years. She collected dolls and raised English Bull Dogs. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

She is survived by her son, Travis Moore, Jonesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Becky & Chris Poe, Jonesboro; brother Bob Mullins, Fulton, Mississippi; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy & Bill Bryant, Mantachie, Mississippi, Midge & Gene Davis, Louisville, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jackson Jeremy Poe, Molly Beth Poe; and a sister-in-law, Tammy Mullins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Moore; her parents; and a brother, Bill Mullins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Shannon Tucker, Blake Hedrick, McClain Mullins, Jared Mullins, Emory Mullins, Leighton Mullins, and James Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Corbitt, Johnny Harrison, Dickie Roberts, Ronnie Roberts, Jerry Roberts, and members of the All American Red Heads.

Visitation will be Tuesday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
