Betty Armstrong Summers, 74 of Jonesboro died Wednesday night, January 15, 2014 at NEA Baptist Medical Center. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1981 moving here from Weiner. Betty attended Temple Baptist Church. She loved yard sales, all types of music, playing the piano and spending time with her family and grandkids. Betty taught in public schools and spent a lot of her career guiding many “often overlooked students” on family, career and personal matters. She served as a caregiver at the David E. Puryear Center. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandparents, Charles and Myrtle Lovell who raised her.
Survivors include her husband, Buddy Summers, of the home; son, Michael Summers (Connie) of Jonesboro; sisters, Bobbie Hutchinson of Temple City, California; Colleen Guerrette of Corona, California; and two grandchildren, Caitlin Summers and Peyton Summers.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Friday at Temple Baptist Church with Brother Andy Neal officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A committal service will be at 3:30 PM at Walnut Grove Cemetery near Newport with Charles Walker, Timmy Burzynski, Carey Somers, Ron Coots, Ron Williams, Roy Dale Pigg, Brian Morgan, and Christian Smith serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from noon until service time at Temple Baptist Church.
