Apr 14, 1932 — Aug 1, 2026
Betty Jo McElrath, 94, departed this life on August 1, 2026, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 14, 1932, to Wiley and Maudie Coomer in Benton, Kentucky.
Betty dedicated many years of service as a custodian at Westside School, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. She also enjoyed attending Needham Assembly of God. A gifted seamstress, Betty's talents were well known by those who loved her. Her family said, "If it could be made, she could make it." In addition to raising her son, she also raised several of her younger siblings. Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she treasured every moment shared with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Clinton C. McElrath; and her siblings, Louise Buvia, Irene Cerveny, Harley Coomer, B.T. Coomer, Franklin Coomer, Walter Coomer, Billy Cribbs, James Dowty, and Dick Dowty.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Tommy (Shelly) McElrath; her siblings, Lafon Coomer, Patricia Parish, and Ladoska Modisette; her granddaughter, Brandye (Dillon) Wilson; her two great-granddaughters, Darcy and Darian Wilson; and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Janice Brooks.
