Betty Jean Acre Hammil

April 20, 1927 — August 7, 2016

Betty Jean Acre Hammil, 89, of Harrisburg, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Woodbriar Nursing Center in Harrisburg. She had lived in Harrisburg for 18 months moving there from Jonesboro. She was a member of the Weiner Methodist Church. Betty was an avid tennis player and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and working with the prison ministries. She was a retired school nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hammil; parents, Charlie and Margaret Acre; brothers, Frank Acre, Cecil Acre, and Royce Acre; sisters, Mollie Acre, Marcella Phillips and Myrtle Acre.

Survivors include her son, James Roger Hammil Jr. (Tanya) of Clewiston, Florida; daughters, Paula Smith (Bobby) of Jonesboro; Melanie Mills (Larry) of Harrisburg; sisters, Rose Stacks of Conway; Clara Montgomery of Greenbrier; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date, under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
