Betty Holmes

Betty Holmes, 76, of Jonesboro passed from this life Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born June 28, 1939 in Etowoh, AR to the late Charles and Nora Bell Vaughn. Betty lived over 60 years residing in Jonesboro. She was a member of the Nettleton United Methodist Church and was also a member of the choir. Betty was a very active member in the Nettleton United Methodist Church Women’s group. She was also a very avid fisherman, hunter, and sports fan who loved the outdoors. She loved God, family, friends, and lived life to the fullest. Betty spent 19 years working for Nettleton Public Schools.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by three brothers: Nathan Vaughn, Herbert Miller and David Vaughn; and one grandson: Justin Veal.

Betty is survived by her husband, of 61 years Bud Holmes; two sons Doug (Fronda) Holmes and Verlyn (Mary) Holmes both of Jonesboro; one daughter: Sherry (Sam) Darby of Jonesboro; five brothers: Johnny (Maxine) Vaughn of Jonesboro, Wesley (Ann) Metz of Paragould, Robert (Brenda) Metz of Paragould, Edgar (Patsy) Metz of Paragould, and Donald Metz of Jonesboro; one sister: Ada (Kenneth) Wycoff of Paragould; six grandchildren: Cooper Holmes, Bryce Holmes, Larry Veal, Gary Veal, Mallory Smothers, and Eric Morrison; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Nettleton United Methodist Church with Bryce Holmes and Jim Markley officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include the membership of Nettleton United Methodist Church and Bob Fisher, Fred Cooper, Lennie Hogan, Delane Hogan, Jeff Cooper, and Dennis Payton.

A visitation will be from 9am until the start of the memorial service Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Nettleton United Methodist Church.
