Betty Gibson, 80, of Hickory Ridge passed from this life on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at her residence with her family by her side.
Betty was born on August 30, 1935 in Marianna to the late Andrew Jackson and Myrtle Hortanza Stacks Welch. During Betty’s childhood she moved from Marianna to Michigan and eventually moving back to Newport area. Betty met the love of her life Roy R.W. Gibson and they were married for 63 ½ years. During the first 22 years of their marriage they traveled all over the United States with Roy’s Navy career, before moving back to Hickory Ridge. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved the Atlanta Braves and for many years watched every game. She enjoyed ceramics and plastic canvas projects. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hickory Ridge. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Welch.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Roy Gibson Sr. of Hickory Ridge; two sons, Roy Gibson Jr. and his wife Teena of Wynne and Brian Gibson and his wife Christina of Jonesboro; two daughters, Judy Jernigan and her husband Steve of Lepanto and Jeanie Wilson and her husband David of Hickory Ridge; eight grandchildren, Kali Jernigan Brown and her husband Nathan of Youngsville, NC, Christina Wilson Staggs and her husband Jarrod of Jonesboro, Roy Gibson III and his wife Beth of Wynne, Dillon Wilson and his wife Brandye of Jonesboro, Kayce Jernigan Todd and her husband Steven of Jonesboro, Silas Gibson of Wynne, Isabella Gibson and Alexandra Gibson both of Jonesboro; great grandchildren, Cooper Todd, Stratton Staggs, Laney Todd, Mary K. Gibson, Robert Hunt, Roy Gibson IV, Arden Staggs, Darcy Wilson, and Emma Gibson; and a special friend and caregiver, Recia Rodgers.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 1:00pm at the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ with Jody McFadden officiating. Interment will follow at Fisher Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7pm at Emerson Funeral Home, and a second visitation will be from noon until service time at 1:00pm on Wednesday at Hickory Ridge Church of Christ.
