Betty J. Blankenship Choate, 94, of LaPorte, Indiana passed from this life Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Northwest Hospital. She was born to the late Joseph and Josephine Blankenship in Hot Springs, Arkansas on August 16, 1926 and grew up in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
She graduated from Pocahontas High School and attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Then went on to graduate from Arkansas State University. Betty was a teacher at Annie Camp Junior High School and Valley View Schools where she taught choir and the 3 rd grade.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1956. Betty had been a member and soloist of the Chancel Choir for 56 years. She taught youth Sunday School Class and directed the youth choir. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Women’s Susanna Circle and Mrs. Harry Hill Sunday School class for many years. Betty was also a member of The Fourth Quarter Club, the Fourth Quarter Singers and the Case Team, directed the youth choir and City youth ministries. She was a member and past president of the Nocturne Music Club. Betty was a member of the Treble Clef Club and past member of SAI music fraternity.
She is survived by one son, Robert Bruce (Bob) Choate Jr. (Paulette) of Bartlett, Tennessee; one daughter, Cathy Hofer (Greg) of La Porte, Indiana; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; one niece, Lisa Berry of Mena, Arkansas; and one nephew, Thomas Mills, of Chapel Hill, N.C.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Clara Biggers, and Frank and Elizabeth Blankenship; brother, Joseph Blankenship, Jr. and Thomas Mills; and husband, Robert Bruce (Bud) Choate, Sr.
