Bess Nichols, 82, of Jonesboro formerly of Monroe, LA passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.

Bess was born in Ouachita, Arkansas on September 9, 1932 to the late Cleo F. and Mamye Walker Brazeale. She lived most of her life in Monroe, LA before moving to Jonesboro in 2013. She was a member of Highland Drive Baptist Church, and a former member of North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, LA.

She was a retired bookkeeper for North Monroe Baptist Church and Drew Grocery in Monroe, LA. Her hobbies included crocheting, working crossword puzzles, and playing card games with her sisters. Her sense of humor and wittiness will live on in her family’s heart and will always put a smile on their faces. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Nichols; and one infant child, Tony Lynn Nichols.

She is survived by two sons, Randall Nichols (Julie) of Springdale, Curtis Nichols of Monroe, LA; two daughters, Jan Hutchison (Johnny) of Jonesboro, Teresa Miller (Michael) of Montevallo, AL; two sisters, Nedra Williams (Si) of Gurdon, Cledra Keith (Gerald) of Camden; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 6pm Tuesday evening in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Johnny Hutchison officiating. Visitation will start one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be at 2pm on Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens in West Monroe, LA with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
