Bernice Ray Austin

October 9, 1921 — October 25, 2005

Bernice Ray “Sue” Austin, age 84, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Tuesday morning, October 25, 2005, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Sardis, Tennessee, Mr. Austin moved to Paragould, Arkansas in 1954 and then to Jonesboro in 1968. He was a Baptist, and a retired automobile mechanic and worked many years for Abernathy Motor Company in Jonesboro.

Mr. Austin was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, where he served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes Campaigns. He was awarded 5 Bronze Stars for the campaigns.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Pauline Austin of the home, whom he married on December 24, 1946;

Also surviving:
1 Daughter: Annette Austin of the home;

3 Sons: Bobby Austin and his wife, Judy Austin,
Jerry Austin, and
Jeffrey Austin, all of Paragould;

2 Grandchildren:
Sherry Paczosa and her husband, Adam Paczosa, and
Brian Austin, all of Paragould; and

1 Great Grandson: Nicholas Paczosa of Paragould.

Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his mother: Dovie Austin; by a sister: Lucille Ferguson; and by a brother: Howard Austin.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, October 27, 2005, from 5:00-7:00 at Emerson Funeral Home, 1629 E. Nettleton Ave., Jonesboro, AR.
