Our Dad, Bernard B. "Bernie" Bailey departed his earthly life on October 20, 2015 at age 94, to be joyfully greeted by his Heavenly Father and his late wife Frances. Bernie was born April 15, 1921 in Wycliff, Kentucky to Hiram Eugene Bailey and Jesse
Florence (Edison) Bailey. At age three, his family moved to Black Oak, Arkansas, where he grew to be the remarkable man he was.
After his marriage to Frances Demetra Barton of Jonesboro, Arkansas in May 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
He served his country in the South Pacific during WWII as a squadron member in the bow of a B24 Bomber. He was awarded
the Air Medal of Honor by President Harry Truman. At the completion of his service, he and wife Frances moved to Black Oak Arkansas where he entered the mercantile business with his father at Bailey & Son Mercantile.
In 1953 he decided to become a cotton farmer which took his now family of 4 to the Arkansas Delta region. He continued farming which eventually led him back to Black Oak. After retirement, he and the love of his life, Frances, moved to Mountain Home
Arkansas to enjoy Lake Norfork, fishing the lake and rivers, playing tennis, golfing, traveling in their RV, playing bridge and enjoying the company of many friends. They had 70 years of marriage together. Bernie was pre-deceased by his parents, one sister, one brother, and his wife Frances.
He is survived by two children: daughter Dorothy (Dot) Bailey and spouse Linda
Agnew of West Plains, Missouri, son Robert (Bob) Bailey and spouse Kathy Bailey of
Mount Juliet Tennessee, one granddaughter and two great grandchildren all of Tennessee.
A graveside service will be held in Jonesboro Memorial Cemetery, on Monday October 26, at 2 p.m. with Melvin Young officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge. There will be no visitation.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Bailey, Raygand Adams, David H. White, David Long, Melvin Young and Gene Young. Honorary will be Bob Craig.
In lieu of flowers, please consider the Hospice House of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, Arkansas. 774 Long Street, Mountain Home, Arkansas 72653 in memory of Frances and Bernard Bailey.
