Benetta J "Stowers" Baker

Benetta J. “Stowers” Baker, 88, of Buchanan, Michigan, passed from this life on August 9, 2023.  She had lived in Buchanan for the past 16-1/2 years, moving there from Jonesboro.  She was born in Bowman, Arkansas on February 26, 1935 to Oscar Newton and Leron Alexander Ring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.  Benetta retired from McDonnel Douglas.  She loved to travel and had been in 48 states. Cooking and canning were another amazing pastime.  Camping, square dancing, and motorcycle riding gave her plenty of traveling opportunities.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, Wayne Stowers; brothers, Glendale Ring, Bill Ring, Wilburn Ring; sisters, Bonnie Spears, Lameda Winn; Step-daughter, Ronnie Krugh.

Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Leon Baker, of the home; daughter, Vicki Pickens and husband Dan of St. Charles, Mo; step-daughters, Becky Rees and husband, Blake of Bellevue Michigan; Kathy Baumann and husband Joe of Buchanan; Beverly Cook and husband Bill of Bangor, Michigan; brother, David Ring of Lynchburg, Virginia; step-son, Michael Baker of Berrien Springs, Michigan; sister, Janice Doss of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Carri, Danny Jr, Andrea, Kassi and 12 step-grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several great step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with Ross Burton officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Nathan Reddick, Danny Pickens, Robby Baker, Preston Reddick, Caleb Baker and Bradley Pickens serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time.
