Belinda Theresa Sturtz, was born on September 22, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland and longtime resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Suddenly on March 20, 2024, she left us and was called home by the Lord as He said to her, “you may now breathe easy my child, and rest pain free”.
Daughter of the late Guy Sturtz and late Mary Elizabeth Reed (nee Roche’). Loving sister of Ida Mehl (Steve), late Roseanne Sturtz, Grace Lyndsay, Jullie Humeniuk (Stephen) and Rosalind Anzalone (John).
Devoted wife of the late Robert Painter, Sr.
Beloved mother of son Devin Compton (Becky), Justin Humphrey (Tara) and daughter Jade Abeyta (nee Humphrey) and step-mother of the late Robert Painter Jr. and Danny Painter (Tiffany).
Cherished grandmother of thirteen - Elise, Zoey and Emily Compton, Gage and Aiden Humphrey, Samantha Painter, Jade Altman, Haley, Kyle, Mica, Braden and Kayden Painter, and Gio Abeyta. Great grandmother of Jackson James (JJ) Altman.
Treasured aunt of DiAnna Hopkins (Phillip), Stephanie (fiancé Kayle) and Melanie Humeniuk, Benjamin and Megan Anzalone, Georgeanna Hanson and Jimmy Lyndsay.
Belinda served her longtime Jonesboro community working at the Northeast Arkansas Regional Recovery Center as a Recovery & Detox Specialist and later at a Women’s State House Monitor where she dedicated her life solely to helping others who were in the same situation that she once lived. In 2014 received the Outstanding Service Award from North Jonesboro Neighborhood Initiative on 11-7-2014 in recognition of valuable contributions and service to the community from Mayor Harold Perrin, Jonesboro, AR.
After her late husband’s passing in 2015, she returned to her hometown of Baltimore where she received an ACE scholarship from Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). In 2016, she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA). She then passed the Maryland CNA/GNA Nursing Boards and she obtained a position at Mercy Hospital Stella Maris Hospice where she specialized in palliative care for terminally ill persons and offered support to their families. She continued her education and became a Certified Medication Technician (CMT) to help her patients’ comfort for pain alleviation as they transitioned from this world to the next.
She returned to Jonesboro, AR in 2019 when her next to last grandson was born. At that time, she devoted her life to mentoring women back into society in an AR State Women’s House as a house mother known for her strict enforcements, rules, and legendary outpouring of love earning the name “Momma B”.
She spent the latter part of her life making friends wherever she went and making sure people continued to live their lives in a better place. Even in her afterlife, she will continue to give back, as an organ donor and her remains will be placed in a Capsula Mundi (egg-shaped world capsule organic casket) and buried. The biodegradable plastic shell breaks down and her remains will provide nutrients to a sapling planted tree right above her which is more recently known as a “tree pod burial.”
Belinda was a ray of sunshine, a dancing queen, and had many jewels in her crown that she shared with others. So, remember y’all “It’s time to adjust your crown, wear it with pride and walk straight.”
Life is precious and Belinda was taken too soon. She touched many hearts and saved even more lives. She will truly be missed by many especially her sisters and immediate family, N/A family and the many friends she had along the way.
Celebrations of Life Service will be held in both Arkansas and Maryland – Date and Location TBA.
