Barbara Langlois

Barbara Lambdin Langlois passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Grant and Roxie Lambdin.

She was born in Kentucky but called Knoxville, Tennessee, her hometown. Barbara attended Knoxville Business College and was a fan of the Tennessee Volunteers.

She moved to New Orleans where she met and married her husband, Albin Langlois (Buck). Their first date was a blind date to a New Orleans Saints football game, even though she strongly disliked football. They were married for 62 years, beginning their journey together in Baton Rouge while Buck finished his Ph.D. at LSU.

In 1964, Barbara and Buck moved to Jonesboro so Buck could teach at then-Arkansas State College. They welcomed two children, Stephen and Mitzi. Her children were Barbara’s pride and joy. Barbara became very involved at First Baptist Church, where she was a member for 54 years. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, Sanctuary Choir, Ladies Ensemble, and helped at church and school. Besides sewing, her hobbies included watching old movies, following the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio every baseball season and listening to Broadway musicals (including performing in a local production of Hello, Dolly).

Barbara supported Buck by joining the Faculty Women’s Club at ASU, eventually serving as president. She also served as the Treble Clef Music Club president and Music Week Chairman. More recently, Barbara helped lead and encourage women in the NEA Breast Cancer Support Group and proudly volunteered for the Delta Symphony Orchestra Guild.

Barbara and Buck enjoyed traveling the world together, leading many group trips to visit the gardens of Europe, Scandinavia, the British Isles and Greece. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii, but she also loved cruising the rivers of Europe or the ocean.

Following Buck’s retirement from ASU, they moved back to his hometown of New Roads, Louisiana. Barbara again got involved in many activities like American Legion Auxiliary and First Baptist New Roads, but she was most proud of founding a breast cancer support group there and, with the help of other animal lovers, founding their parish’s first animal shelter.

After a lovely seven years in New Roads, Barbara “encouraged” Buck to move back to Jonesboro to be closer to their daughter Mitzi, son-in-law Mark and their sons Adam and Alex. She delighted in spending time with her “Florida” grandchildren Andy and Zack Langlois and their parents Stephen and Vicki Langlois.

Barbara is survived by Buck, her children and grandchildren, her sister Jean Mulryan, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her many friends from FBC, the Ladies Ensemble and NEA Breast Cancer Support Group; and special friends Carmela Thomas, Lisa Lynn, Joyce Thayer, and devoted caregivers Whitney Cranford and Shebbie Bristow.

Pallbearers will be Adam and Alex Young and Andy and Zack Langlois. Honorary pallbearers are the Ladies Ensemble and NEA Breast Cancer Support Group.

Barbara requested that memorials be sent to NEA Breast Cancer Support Group, 3609 Bolt Boulevard, Jonesboro 72405; or the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society, 6111 East Highland Drive, Jonesboro 72401.

A visitation for Barbara will be held at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 9-10 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10. Burial will be private.
