Barbara "Bunny" Nolting Starr, 85, passed away June 6, 2023 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born October 1, 1937 in Boston, MA to DeWayne and Sadie Nolting.
Bunny grew up in Chattanooga, TN and lived there until she left for college. Bunny attended Emory University in Atlanta earning her Master’s in Library Science. After college, Bunny joined the Peace Corps and spent a couple of years in Jamaica helping others.
Bunny moved to Fairfax, VA where she would live for the next 35 years. Bunny built her career in library science here, working as a librarian administrator overseeing the libraries in Fairfax County. In 1993, Bunny moved from Fairfax to Berkley Springs, WV – a place she would call home until 2016.
Bunny was always dedicated to serving others including holding leadership positions in organizations where she volunteered. After retirement, Bunny worked in the hospice industry. She was a selfless woman who loved helping others – taking her elderly neighbors grocery shopping and to the movies.
Unsurprisingly, given her career choice, Bunny was an avid reader. Mysteries were some of her favorites. She was always the first to read the “fresh” new books at the library. Later in life, the Jonesboro and Paragould libraries would contact Bunny when new books arrived. Bunny also loved to collect rabbits. She had thousands in her collection – porcelain figurines, stuffed animals, knick knacks, you name it. If it was a rabbit, Bunny would add it to her collection.
Bunny is preceded in death by her parents, DeWayne and Sadie Nolting, and her beloved grandson, Daniel Starr.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Alie) Starr of Latrobe, PA and Michael (Angela) Starr of Jonesboro; her sister, Virginia Densmore of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Jason Starr of New York, NY, Ian Starr of Latrobe, PA, Chad (Barbara) Starr of Paragould, Matthew Starr of Jonesboro, James Starr of Cabot, and Katherine Starr of Jonesboro; and great-grandchildren, Chad Michael, Alaina, Aubrey, Logan, Aiden, Rowen, Ryder, and Levi.
The family will be holding a private service in remembrance of Bunny.
