Audra L. Davis

January 19, 1929 — March 22, 2016

Audra L. Davis, age 87, died on March 22, 2016 at her Bono home.

She worked hard all her life, from picking cotton to working at General Electric, where she retired after 22 years. She was a member of the Center Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

To say that she loved her family is an understatement. Her kids came first in her life. She did not play favorites and encouraged each child to reach her or his fullest potential. Audra did anything and everything to help them while making them walk the straight line. She loved their spouses as if they were her own. Her children deeply respected and loved her.

Audra rose to the challenge of almost any repair. Using her tools, she fixed televisions, vacuum cleaners, motors, and other machines. An accomplished seamstress, she sewed hundreds of patches on jeans and pants and, from pattern to completion, sewed clothes, drapes, and bed linens. Little girls’ outfits had her-hand embroidered, matching dresses and socks. She altered and repaired pants, shirts, coats, dresses, and jeans for her family.

Her cooking and baking will be missed. No one has matched her wonderful, perfect chocolate and peach fried pies, pumpkin rolls, cakes and coconut pies. Grandkids loved endless grilled cheese sandwiches, angel food cake, spiced tea and other goodies in the “sweets cabinet”.

She spent hours in her rock garden and flower beds. She fed many hummingbirds on her front porch.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Jiggs” Davis, her parents, Jimmie and Gladys Browning, sisters, Marzee Browning, Othella (Browning) Keith, and Marie (Browning) Holland, and brothers, Otis Browning, Lloyd Browning, Ralph Browning, and Leonard Browning. She is survived by her seven children, Dale (Barbara) Davis of Bono, Freddie Glenn Davis of Sherwood, Reta (Randy) Jones of Jonesboro, Leta Davis of Jonesboro, Bobby (Edra) Davis of Bono, Wanda Burton of Heber Springs, and Rhonda (Tommy Walker) Davis of Akron, Ohio and Marked Tree, her siblings, Roy (Janice) Browning and Geraldine Jones, and her sisters-in-law, Jean Browning, Janice Browning, Dorothy Browning and Ramona Browning Shirley. She leaves four grandchildren, Andrea (Corey) Seats, Shannon (Peggy) Davis, Chad Davis, and Drew (Laura) Davis, and five great grandchildren, Hannah Seats, Natalie Davis, John Seats, Nathan Davis, and Kate Davis.

The Davis Family appreciates the loving care for 10 years by Mechial Garrett and last 1-1/2 years by Shelley Dunn. The family also thanks St. Bernard’s Home Health/Hospice, especially Jenny Fleeman, for their wonderful care.

On Friday, March 25, 2016, Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and Funeral Service (with Brother John Travis officiating) follows at 11 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel, Emerson Funeral Home, 1629 East Nettleton Avenue, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery, in Bono.
