Anna Lee Henthorne Sante

Mrs. Anna Lee Henthorne Sante, 82, of Jonesboro departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born November 07, 1933 in Neelyville, Missouri to the late Mr. & Mrs. Ralph and Bessie Henthorne. Mr. and Mrs. Henthorne were married December 02, 1930 at Piggott, AR. The family of eight lived several years in Neelyville, and a short time in Grandin before moving to Poplar Bluff. The six children were Jeani, Ann, Joy, Louise, Carole, and Jim. In 1952, another son Danny was born. Mrs. Bessie Louise Nichols Henthorne died in August 1952. Mrs. Sante’s father William Ralph Henthorne built their family home on P.P. Hwy rural Poplar Bluff. He continued to live there until his death in January 2002. Mrs. Sante’s stepmother, Margaret McLean Henthorne continues to live there. Mrs. Sante graduated from Poplar Bluff High School, May 1951. During her senior year, she enjoyed the work-study program and worked part-time at the Daily American Republic Newspaper in the circulation department. After graduating she worked at the State Bank on Main Street, Poplar Bluff. Later, she worked for an insurance adjustment firm located on the second floor of the Bank. While there she met Jack A. Sante from Kansas City, who worked in an office across the hall. Ann and Jack were married in the spring of 1954. His career with the Federal Government led to an interesting life for themselves and their two children, their son Stephen Sante and daughter Lisa Sante. Mrs. Sante lived about 50 years in the Bethesda and Annapolis, Maryland areas. She enjoyed being a full-time homemaker and dearly loved her granddaughter, Erica and her five grandsons Dennis, Kevin, Nicholas, and twins Christopher and Patrick.
Mrs. Sante was a former member of Independence Baptist Church, Neelyville, MO. and Mt. Zion Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Poplar Bluff.

Preceding Mrs. Sante’s in death were her parents: her paternal grandparents James Alford Henthorne and Laura Belle Roberts Henthorne of Neelyville, Butler County, MO, Her maternal grandparents, James Nichols and Maude Cole Nichols of Grandin and Fairdealing, MO. Another infant brother, William Ralph Henthorne Jr. who died shortly after birth, September 17, 1931, a sister, Norma Jean “Jeani” Henthorne Pyle died at Lucy Lee hospital, Poplar Bluff on September 07, 1993.

Survivors include Mrs. Sante’s son Stephen Sante, Upper Marlboro, Maryland; a daughter Lisa Sante Hogue, Hunting Town Maryland and six grandchildren; Mrs. Sante’s brothers are Joy Henthorne: Jim Henthorne of Poplar Bluff and Danny Henthorne, Naples Florida; Sisters are Louise Henthorne Dickens, Jonesboro, AR; Mary Ann Powell Greer, Puxico, MO.; Carole Henthorne Stewart, Poplar Bluff, and Geneva Lou “Cookie” Henthorne Martin, Poplar Bluff, and Mrs. Sante’s stepmother Margaret McLean Henthorne, Poplar Bluff.

Graveside services will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Byron Beck officiating. Funeral arrangements will be directed by Emerson’s Funeral Home, Jonesboro, AR.
