Anna Jean Adkins

August 24, 1929 — January 27, 2024

Anna Jean Adkins, 94, of Jonesboro passed away early Saturday, January 27, 2024 at St. Bernards Hospital. Anna was born in Marmaduke and lived with her family in Paragould and briefly in Roanoke, Virginia before settling in Jonesboro where they lived many years. She married the love of her life, Robert Adkins, and together they lived in Brinkley 19 years before moving to Jonesboro. Anna sang in the choir and taught G.A.’s at Brinkley First Baptist before moving to Jonesboro. She taught G.A.’s at First Baptist Jonesboro and was an active member of the Phebean Sunday School Class. She taught art to many Jonesboro children for several years and was a charter member of the Jonesboro Fine Arts Council. Anna is best known for owning and operating her clothing store, Anna’s of Jonesboro, for many years where customers became life-long friends. In recent years, Anna lived at St. Bernards Villa and was a much-loved resident. She loved her Villa friends and staff who showed her so much kindness. Her favorite pastime was watching her beloved Steph Curry play basketball. “Isn’t he just the cutest thing” was often heard when she talked about Steph.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Adkins and their two sons, Donnie Wayne Adkins and Robert Kevin Adkins as well as her siblings, Deloris White and Tommy Thorne.

Survivors include one daughter, Melanie Adkins Verser of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, John William Verser, Susannah Grace Horton (Cody) and Matthew Robert Verser (Katie) all of Jonesboro; four great-grandchildren, John William Verser II, Elle RayeAnn Thielemier, Sutton Hayes Verser and Adam Wynn as well as a fifth great-grandchild on the way.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 1-2 pm at Emerson Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday January 31, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Will Verser, Matt Verser, Cody Horton, Joe Verser, Devin Sides and James Sides. Honorary pallbearers are the staff of St. Bernards Villa and Dr. Darrell Ragland.
