Anita J. Nicholson Cullins, 78, went home to be with the Lord, December 4, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Cullins, daughters, Jane Tacker (Trav), Adrienne Cullins Bolton (Adrian), grandsons, Zeke Tacker and Ezra Tackers, her caregivers of eight years, Cammie Buckner and Lacey Brown and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, volunteering in the children’s department, attending Sunday School and Life Group activities.
Anita’s life was exemplary with a kind, lovely spirit filled with laughter and a stubborn iron will and faith to accomplish any goal God set before her. This served her well, miraculously overcoming with the Lord’s strength enormous physical and emotional challenges in her life.
She graduated from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia with an Associates, Bachelors, and Masters degrees in Education. Anita was a kindergarten teacher extraordinaire and helped establish the kindergarten program at Ridgefield Christian School in Jonesboro from the school’s inception. “Miss” Cullins, as she was known, will be remembered by many students, parents, and associates for her dedication and charming warm smile and personality. Anita would tell us a five-year-old child’s world is precious and innocent and they will invite you to share it with them.
She taught her students one of her favorite bible verses over and again – Exodus 23:30 God’s promise to lead them – “Little by little, I will” – help you to learn, to read and write, and accomplish His will. That verse will stay with them throughout their lives. Upon retiring in 2006, she was recognized for her many years of contribution and service, and the school yearbook was dedicated to her.
In one of her favorite and well-worn bibles, she’d written from The Life That Wins. “Jesus Christ does not want to be our helper, He wants to be our life, allowing Him to do His work though us, using us as a writing pencil or as one of the fingers on His hands.”
We may all take comfort and solace implementing Anita’s lesson of faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who she loved and served so well and does yet for eternity.
2 Timothy 1:12 Apostle Paul writes, “I know whom I believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day.”
