Alice Ferrell Harris, age 95, of Jonesboro passed from this life Monday, May 9, 2022, at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Born in Greenville, Mississippi, Alice eventually moved to Batesville, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Wood Junior College and Delta State University. Alice became an elementary school teacher and taught in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Illinois. During these years, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Alice and her husband retired to Cherokee Village, Arkansas, where they lived for many years until moving to Jonesboro four years ago.
Alice was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hardy. She led a busy life and enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, feeding the wild deer and birds, as well as caring for her pet dog and pet birds, camping and cooking, growing plants, and decorating her home. She also enjoyed her beloved Ferrell family reunions in Batesville, Mississippi. Alice was blessed to have many dear friends and relatives during her lifetime. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Hill Ferrell, Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Robert D. Harris of the home, married August 24, 1952; one son and daughter-in-law: Robert F. (Bob) and Laurie Harris and one daughter and son-in-law: Lisa (Harris) and Frank Walden, all of Jonesboro; one granddaughter and her husband: Taylor (Harris) and Brandon Eller of Little Rock; one great grandson, Hayes Eller, and one great granddaughter, Hallie Eller.
There will be a private graveside funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Larry Kindrick officiating. There will be no visitation.
