Alice Faye Fletcher Blalock, 85, of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at St.
Bernard’s Medical Center. She was raised in Bay Arkansas community and a graduate of Bay
High School.
Throughout her life she enjoyed homemaking, caring for her husband, her family, reading and
cooking. She was known for being a great cook, especially her pumpkin pies, ooey-gooey
butter cake, pimento cheese and other family favorites. She always made sure everyone in the
family had what they needed for success in life, whether it was “good” shoes, a current weather
report, gas money, prayers, favorite meals, school needs, a big hug or general life advice.
Everyone felt and knew acts of service were her love language. Alice enjoyed card games,
hearty potlucks, and monthly domino night with her extended Blalock family members. In her
later years, visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought great joy and always
resulted in a big smile.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Anita Blalock Akers (Mike) of Brandon, Mississippi, Deanna
Blalock Bryant (Jimmy) and Jamie Sue Blalock all of Jonesboro, 5 Grandchildren, Meredith
Akers McCullough (Micah) and Nate Akers, both of Brandon Mississippi, Jared Akers (Caitlyn)
of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Bethany Akers of Oxford, Mississippi and Abigail Bryant of
Jonesboro, 4 great grandchildren, Alden and Conley McCullough of Brandon, Mississippi and
Caswell and Collier Akers of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Other survivors include her sister in
law, Clara Blalock of Jonesboro and brother in law, Lowell (Sonny) Wise of Carrolton, Texas,
along with numerous nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Fay or Aunt Alice.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James A. (J.A) Blalock, an infant
daughter, her granddaughter Shelby Bryant, and her parents, Jack and Ada Fletcher of Bay.
She was the last survivor of her 10 siblings, Edward Fletcher, JC Fletcher, Jim Fletcher, Ken
Fletcher, Darrell Fletcher, Burrell Fletcher, Vanoy Fletcher, Willis Earl Fletcher, MaryLois Wise,
and Linda Walden.
Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro is coordinating the service. Visitation will be Friday,
August 29th, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Emerson’s Funeral Home. A graveside service and
burial will follow at 2:30 at Oaklawn Cemetery 2349 West Matthews Avenue, Jonesboro.
Brother Stan Ballard will officiate the service.
