Alfred Shirley, 93 of Jonesboro, died Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He had lived most of his life in Northeast Arkansas. He was of the Church of Christ belief. Alfred served in the infantry during WWII in the US Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas A. Shirley (Ann) of Brentwood, Tennessee; Johnnie Shirley (Brenda) of Jackson, Missouri; and Rickey Shirley (Kim) of Marion, Arkansas; daughter, Louan Millsap (Bill) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; sisters, Lessie Collier of Coldwater, Mississippi; Mary Parnell of Wabash, Indiana; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the love of his life, Madge Shirley.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM,, Friday, April 18, 2014 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time on Friday.
