Alexander Morris Mays

Alexander Morris Mays, 90, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010.
Mr. Mays graduated from ASU on May 4, 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of Pi Omega Pi honorary business fraternity. He completed ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, reporting to Camp Robinson on May 5, 1942. He later served in the Arkansas Guard as a 1st Lieutenant and the Arkansas Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Mays was a lifelong Jonesboro resident and served as a Director, deacon and church clerk for the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He worked for the Stuck Paint Store and as a Regional Manager for the BPS Paint Company for 35 years, working closely with Barton’s Lumber Company. After retiring for BPS he worked as a Realtor for White Realty and for the US census.
Mr. Mays also was a former President of the Kiwanis Club, officer of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), mason, genealogists, ham radio operator, city council member, stunt pilot, painter, needlepointer, handyman, blood donor, radio announcer, cook, chess player, model airplane builder, Democrat, and avid computer user.
Survivors include his wife Kay of 38 years, son Matt and daughter-in-law Florence of Nice, France, son Al Mays of Jonesboro, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers are Emil Williams, Dr. Steven Woodruff, Dr. Lee Woodruff, Dr. Terence Braden, Dr. Corey Diamond, Dr. Tom Day, Dr. John Ball, Dr. John Woloszyn, Dr. Claiborne Moseley, and the members of the Fellowship Class of FBC.
Funeral services will be 3:00 Friday, July 23, 2010 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Bruce Tippit officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M., Friday until service time.
