Alberta Walden Jones, 94, passed away on January 12, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on June 27, 1920 in Memphis, TN to Joseph and Birdie Brown Walden. Alberta grew up in Memphis. She attended Snowden High School in Memphis.
She began work for Sears Roebuck and worked there for over eight years. She moved with her family to Greenwood, MS and lived there for about three years, then moving to Jonesboro in 1958.
Alberta married Marvyne Ray Jones, Jr on January 20, 1940, in Memphis, TN. They were happily married for 66 years with the passing of M. Ray, in 2006.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, in Jonesboro. Alberta was an alumni- adviser for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at ASU and was awarded the Outstanding Alumnus Award.
In1974 she started volunteering at Craighead County Hospital, which later became North East Arkansas Baptist Hospital. She served as President of the volunteer group several times and retired from
Auxiliary volunteering in 2010, with over 11,990 hours of service. She was a member of the Dixie Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy of Columbus, Ohio. Alberta was preceded in death by her
husband M. Ray Jones, Jr and her parents, her three brothers; her one sister; and her son Joseph Michael Jones.
Alberta is survived by her son Marvyne Ray Jones, III (Sharon) of Jonesboro. Her two daughters Therese Ann Snively (John) of Pickerington, Ohio and Lisa Clay of Columbus, Ohio. Her 8
grandchildren Stephanie Suzanne Westgate (Anthony) of Carson City, NV, Stacy Michelle Woodbury (Jason) Carson City, NV, Sarah Rae French (Kyle) of Imboden, Laura Ducker, Lindsay Newton, and
Kacey Newton all of Columbus, Ohio.Rachael Catherine Snively and Michael Walden Snively both of Pickerington, Ohio. Her 6 great-grandchildren Alexis Kathleen Kulick, Danielle
Andrews, Noah Jennings, Peter Woodbury, Chloe Woodbury and Elizabeth Raye Kulick.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 - 6:30 pm on Friday January 16, 2015 in Emerson Memorial Chapel followed by a Rosary at 6:30 P.M. with Father Jack Vu officiating. Burial will be private in the Holy Cross Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Alberta's name.
