Ada Katherine Berger Gibson, 95, of Jonesboro was granted her life's desire of being in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May22, 2024. Katherine was born July 2, 1928, in Weiner, AR to parents Samuel Winfred Berger and Lona Alice Leech Berger. Katherine is pre-deceased by her husband of 75 years, Burke Gibson, her parents, brother, Samuel Winfred Berger, sisters Dorothy Berger Lowry and Alice Berger Collins.
Katherine is survived by her son Ken, (Cindy) Gibson and their children, Lauren (Chris) Starnes of Jonesboro and Lee, (Katherine) Gibson of Benton, AR, her son Brian, (Michele) Gibson of Lakeway, TX and their children, Mallory (Reed) Baker and Mark (Margaret) Gibson both of Austin, TX and four great-grandchildren, Lawson Starnes, Matthew and Mandy Gibson and George Baker. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen Berger Barr and Ruth Berger Linn (Bob) of Weiner, AR.
Katherine graduated from Weiner High School where she was Captain of the girl's basketball team. After graduation, Katherine graduated from LaVera Beauty School and worked as a beautician for three years before changing careers to bookkeeper for Home Electric Co., A&G Auto Parts Co., Winningham Parts Warehouse and completing her professional career at Gibson’s Pharmacy in 1997.
Katherine loved being active in her church, serving as church pianist at Strawfloor Baptist Church for fifteen years. She also served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher and Women's Missionary Union Director. She served at Fisher St/Highland Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Katherine and her husband Burke lived on 20 acres on North Culberhouse for 57 years. She loved to tend to her beautiful flower garden and share the abundance of her vegetable garden with family and friends. She enjoyed knitting baby booties for the Jonesboro Pregnancy Center and gave away knitted "house shoes" to those whose path crossed hers. Everyone who knew Katherine loved her. She was an avid card player with her sisters and friends.
Katherine loved her family. She experienced great joy cooking meals and gathering together around the table. Every Saturday morning would involve making a dessert for her family as well as any visitor that might stop by on Sunday afternoons. She loved to take care of her family in so many ways. She loved to make others' days a bit brighter by doing something nice for them. Katherine truly had a servant's heart and was always willing to help when called upon by family, friends, or her church. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home, Jonesboro, AR.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Ross Burton officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
