Billie Sue Hoggard of Jonesboro peacefully went to be with her Lord Jesus in Heaven on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the age of 76 years. She was born on January 28, 1944 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Billie Sue was a member of Highland Drive Baptist Church in Jonesboro where she sang in the choir. She lived in Jonesboro for 30 years where she taught school at various levels. She was retired from the Jonesboro Public Schools, where she worked as a teacher. She earned both a bachelor’s degree and Masters in Elementary Education at Arkansas State University. She also was recognized nationally as a National Board Certified teacher and helped many other teachers become certified as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, Buel and Lucy Jones of Lake City, Arkansas.
She leaves behind her children, Tammy Jo (Bill) Hodges, Kayla Sue Davidson, Jess Cleveland Hoggard, and, Timothy James (Ashley) Hoggard; 7 Grandchildren, Meagan Pesce, Taylor Davidson, Max Hoggard, Emma Hoggard, Kate Hoggard, Bella Hoggard, and Jesslyn Hoggard; 3 great grandchildren, MacKenzie Pesce, Mia Pesce, and Samuel Pesce.
Billie Sue participated in educational programs, which included study trips to China, Japan, and Mexico. She served as a Praxis III teacher performance assessor for the Arkansas Department of Education. She cemented her personal philosophy of serving her community and leading by example by fundraising for local, district, state, and national Republican candidates and Ridgefield Christian School. She served for ten years as the chair of the Craighead County Republican Committee.
Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Highland Drive Baptist Church and funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Johnny Hutchison and David Burgess officiating. Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery with Taylor Davidson, Joshua Pesce, Max Hoggard, Jeff Pittman, Johnny Pittman, Tommy Posey, Jerry Strickland, and Chad Neil as pallbearers.
