Ruby Carter Elrod, 90, of Wynne, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, of natural causes at her son’s home in Gainesville.

Ruby was born in Craighead County and moved with her family to California in 1945. She lived in Ventura, California, until 1977 when she moved back to Jonesboro. She has resided in Wynne for 10 years.

Ruby was a retired Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked several years at Ventura County General Hospital. She was a member of Bridges Church of Christ in Wynne and was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Carter, her second husband, Robert “Pete” Elrod, by a son, James Carter, and by a daughter, Peggy Wilmoth.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Joyce Overholser Hopkins (Billy) of Wynne;

2 sons, Billy Beck (Judy) of Rector, and Ray Carter (Ellie) of Gainesville;

1 sister, Jewel Jones of Lancaster, California;

14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Tim Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
